We are open 7 days a week from 8am until between 6pm and 9pm (depending on the time of year).
The land now occupied by Winter Hill GC was acquired by the John Lewis Partnership in the 1930's and leased to the Court family, who farmed here until the outbreak of the Second World War. Spedan Lewis' dream was finally realised in May 1976 when the course was completed; however it was not officially opened until October of that year. During the long hot summer, while the clubhouse was being finished, Charles Davis -the first Club Secretary- set himself up in a shed in the grounds of nearby Grange House and collected green fees from anyone who wanted to play. Hundreds of the newly-planted trees died as the heat wave took hold but they were replanted and those trees, now mature, help to shape the manicured fairways. Initially Winter Hill GC was run by the the John Lewis Partnership as an amenity for their Partners; soon after the club was opened membership was extended to non-Partners. The founding Captains were Alec Pounder and Lois Ashwanden, who helped to ensure the club had the perfect start.
